Subject of the contract: construction works related to the reconstruction of the Main Building of KUL – reconstruction of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Auditorium

Location: Lublin

Client: John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin

Contractor: T4B Budownictwo Sp. z o.o.

Scope of works: the investment we are implementing for the Catholic University of Lublin is the first stage of the reconstruction of the Main Building planned for 2023–2025. The first stage focuses mainly on the reconstruction of the most important place in the front wing of the Main Building – the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Auditorium, including an audio-video system, partial replacement of windows and doors, reconstruction of stormwater drainage, as well as adaptation to current fire protection regulations.

This hall has hosted the most important university events – including matriculations, ceremonies for awarding doctoral titles, congresses, and conferences. Over its more than 40-year history, it has welcomed many distinguished figures, including John Paul II and its patron, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. Even before the works began, many people wanted to take a last look at the auditorium and keep as a souvenir even the number of their favorite seat or an original screw. This set an exceptionally high bar for us to ensure that the final result would meet expectations regarding care and quality of workmanship, while being a place evoking fond memories for both the client and the users. The original character of the auditorium’s architecture and interior elements designed by Mrs. Maria Chomentowska, one of the most prominent Polish interior designers of the post-war period, required works to be carried out with respect for these values, maintaining consistency with the rest of the building’s finish and its history. This is not an ordinary project that involves throwing away everything old and installing something new. It is a labor-intensive reconstruction of a piece of history using safe, high-quality materials, as well as thoughtful renovation and restoration measures.

Carrying out the investment in a continuously operating facility requires, in addition to compliance with health and safety and fire protection regulations, meticulous planning and execution of works in constant cooperation with the client and in compliance with local regulations and rules.
